Location & Overview
Botany in the state's southeast is just 10 kilometres from the CBD with access to nearby beaches and the airport, Botany remains a quiet achiever that locals love to call home.
Traditional & History
The traditional custodians are the Kameygal and Gweagal people of the Dharawal nation. The suburb's namesake, Botany Bay, sits to the south and was where Captain James Cook first landed the HMS Endeavour in Australia in 1770.
Housing
In terms of residential offerings, art deco and more contemporary homes sit alongside rows of terrace homes and apartment blocks. For those who chose Botany because of its proximity to the beaches at Maroubra or La Perouse, beachy bungalows sit alongside their Federation-style counterparts to match the sea breezes.
Recreation and Amenities
Sir Joseph Banks Park along the foreshore packs a punch with walking tracks, bushland, gardens, an oval and running track, and more. Botany Aquatic Centre adds yet another opportunity for sport and recreation.
Dining and Entertainment
Almost every home in Botany is within walking distance to a trendy little café or eatery. The Sir Joseph Banks Hotel has been serving up delicious bistro style meals, refreshments, and entertainment to the locals of Botany since 1920.
An absolute must visit is One Drop Brewing in Erith Street. Located in a former paper warehouse and founded by long-time Botany locals, husband and wife duo Meg Barbie and Clay Grant, this funky brewery has so much to offer. Enjoy a refreshing cold schooner of the flagship Botany Bay Lager in the beer garden whilst a DJ plays a soundtrack of chilled reggae, soulful dub tunes and Pacific and Caribbean sounds.
